WHAT IS DENTAL IMPLANT

Implants are titanium screws applied to edentulous areas in the jawbone.

Thanks to the implant treatment, cutting of the adjacent teeth in the edentulous area is prevented. Because even when neighboring teeth are cut, sometimes that gap cannot be closed comfortably. Sometimes we may not even find a neighboring tooth to be cut. Because the mouth can be completely toothless.

The implant is an application that can be applied to any patient over the age of 18, whose jaw bone development has been completed. Implant suitability can be understood by X-ray and computed tomography scans. Because the implant has a certain diameter and length, that is, it has a certain width and length. According to him, we determine the implants at certain angles, if necessary, with the acrylic guides we have prepared before, and place them in the bone in that way.

After the completion of the secondary healing, that is, the ossification process, which we expect after making the implant; The part we call the upper structure, the prosthetic tooth part, that is the part that makes the chewing, is loaded on the area and the patient gets the comfort of chewing.

Implant Treatment in Diabetics

Diabetes patients are divided into type 1 and type 2. In Type 1 diabetes, there is no insulin production, Type 2 insulin is present but it is dysfunctional. If the patient uses diabetes medication regularly and the sugar rate is at a certain level, the collagen mechanism disorder caused by diabetes is not a problem and the patient can be implanted. But in the active period, the patient cannot be implanted. Ossification problems of the implant pose a great risk.

Implants cannot be performed in patients with osteoporosis of the jaw or in patients with general osteoporosis risk. In patients undergoing cancer treatment, implant treatment cannot be performed because there is a risk of jaw melting in the first 5 years.

The treatment process proceeds as follows: minimum 1 month, maximum 3 months after implant application; in the upper jaw, if the jawbone is very soft, it can be expected up to 4 months. In other words, after years of toothlessness, these implant loading waiting times are very short for the patient, which is to reduce the risk to zero in the patient. In other words, loading (prosthetic tooth part) can be done immediately, but the ossification process must be completed for permanent loading.

Toothlessness is a great inconvenience, the quality of life of the patient is very low, perhaps one of the biggest hobbies of all of us is eating and these patients are deprived of this hobby, they are deprived of pleasure.

And of course, it also affects the general health system, the digestive system starts from the mouth as we know, if we do not chew enough, all our systems will be adversely affected. And of course, it is also very important aesthetically, all the motivation of the patient is of course on the smile. Everyone deserves a happy smile.

The jawbone development of the implant over the age of 18 has been completed, and the first treatment, which we call oral diagnosis, can be applied to the patient with sufficient bone with the x-ray and computerized tomography(3D) we received in the first diagnosis section.

Implementation of implants in patients with uncontrolled diabetes poses a risk. Because the healing mechanism (collagen structure) is impaired in these patients.

Another one is osteoporosis, because we place the implant in the bone, which naturally poses a risk if the patient has an osteoporosis condition. Again, we can attribute this to cancer patients, bisphosphonate-based drugs used by cancer patients trigger osteoradionecrosis, it is also undesirable in these patients for the first 5 years.

The treatment process ends with the loading we call prosthetic teeth after the ossification process is completed. The treatment process is variable according to the patient’s bone structure.

If we have done bone dust, which we call graft to the upper jaw, it can take up to five months. Of course, in this process, the patient does not become toothless, temporary prosthetic treatments are applied, but permanent loading must be done after one month in order not to take risks. The treatment process is described in this way.
